The GPS downhill debacle

So, has been a bit since the last blog entry. But im coming back with THE GREAT GPS DEBATE!

So some skaters are into recording their speed down a hill with GPS systems. I've done this too in the past, when I wanted to get to thirty and see it in on a real screen, in front of my real eyes, all official like.

Because it was fun. And I got some personal achievement out of it.

Now, GPS systems can be wildly inaccurate. They are not very reliable. But who cares? If somebody is stoked to get GPS'd at 40 even though it was really 35, WOOHOO! They are out there having fun, and doing something good- DOING SOME SKATEBOARDING.

And who are those who arn't doing some skateboarding? Oh yes, those who just sit there and lair off at anybody who mentions "gps, satnav, top speed of this or that hill."

Sure those who are overly obsessed with exactly how fast they were going arn't really focusing on things in the right way, but for those who are just having fun with their skating, I say, let them get on with it!

Just because YOU have been in the downhill scene for a while doesnt mean you can sit there and tell people they cant do what they want. Telling them that what they find fun is stupid just because its not fun for YOU.

In downhill skateboarding, nobody can tell anybody how to have fun with their skating.

The top level skaters (your P-Swisses, Douglas Dalua's,Mischo Erban's) cant tell some kid whos just picked up a board what they should do with it. Nobody has that right, and thats the essence of what makes downhill skateboarding so friggin BRILLIANT.

So relax, respect each other, and go do a skate.

Will
